The 2022 season of Formula 1 was an action-packed one. As the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix wrapped up yesterday, here’s a look at all the highlights.
The main attention in the Abu Dhabi GP finale was the fight for the second position in the drivers’ championship between Charles Leclerc of Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull Racing's Sergio Perez.
Having won in Abu Dhabi in 2020 and 2021, Red Bull's Max Verstappen claimed victory for the third time with a commanding performance. Verstappen dominated the race from start to finish.
Leclerc bagged the 2nd place with Perez coming in third. The duo were involved in an intense and nail-biting race for the last 10 laps of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2022.
It was far less good news for Mercedes-AMG's Lewis Hamilton who was forced to retire to the end of the race, on the last lap, after suffering a car fault.
Hamilton recorded his worst-ever season in F1, winless for the first time. It was his first retirement of 2022 due to mechanical issues.
It was also a special day for Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel who finished his illustrious career in the sport. Four-time world champion Vettel bid goodbye to his F1 career with a 10th-place finish in the race.
It was splendid to watch the champion on the grid for the last time. Vettel made his way to the finish line to signal the end of his career by doing signature championship-end donuts in his car.
As the curtain comes down on a thrilling season, the final points tally for Formula 1 championship 2022 had Verstappen leading with 454 points followed by Charles Leclerc with 308 points and Sergio Perez with 305 points.
