One of the most-anticipated Bollywood movies, Laal Singh Chaddha’s trailer released at the IPL 2022 finale on Sunday. This was the first time a movie trailer was unveiled on such a big live cricket event.
The film is the official remake of American actor Tom Hanks’ critically acclaimed 1994 film ‘Forrest Gump’, and it features Bollywood A-listers Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.
“Experience the extraordinary journey of #LaalSinghChaddha, a simple man whose heart is filled with love, hope and warmth,” read the caption of Aamir Khan Productions’ Instagram post for the trailer launch.
Kareena also shared the trailer on Instagram and wrote, “A pandemic, two lockdowns, and a baby later… one of my most special films… also because my Jeh baba is very much a part of it (in my tummy)”. The actor also went on to thank Aamir and film director Advait Chandan for this opportunity.
Slated to release in theatres worldwide on Aug 11, 2022, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' is one of the biggest releases of 2022.
The trailer, however, has received a mixed response by netizens. While a few viewers indulged in a meme galore over Instagram and Twitter, others drew parallel between Aamir’s characters in ‘PK’, ‘Dhoom 3’, ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.
Certain viewers, on the other hand, started trending #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha on Twitter based on Aamir and Kareena’s old comments on India and intolerance, and audience being responsible for nepotism, respectively.
Meanwhile, two songs of ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’, ‘Kahani’ and ‘Main Ki Karan’ are gaining popularity by the day. ‘Kahani’ alone has garnered over 12 million views on YouTube.
For the unitiated, the Aamir and Kareena-starrer movie also features actors Mona Singh and Chaitanya Akkineni in prominent roles.
