Bollywood has always had quite an impact on all of us with its music, and patriotic songs are no different. A labour of love, passion, and patriotism, these songs move us each time they're heard. May they be pictured on soldiers returning from a deathly war battle, or sung in the praises of the bounty of the land, Hindi patriotic songs make everyone emotional and how! 

Here are some of the most moving Hindi patriotic songs

1. Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logo

Singer Lata Mangeshkar performed the patriotic song 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo'. The song honours Indian soldiers who lost their lives in action in 1962 during the Sino-Indian War.
Lata Mangeshkar Ji performed the song live for the first time two months after the war on Republic Day (January 26, 1963) at the National Stadium in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan were present. The prime minister was moved by the song at the time, and listeners are still moved by it now.

2. Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge

Indians have a particular place in their hearts for the iconic patriotic song ‘Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge’. The meaning of patriotism and sacrifice is captured in the lyrics, 'Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge' Translates To 'We Have Given Our Hearts, We Will Give Our Lives Too'. The lyrics remind listeners of their great love and commitment to their motherland and evoke a strong sense of dedication to the country.

3. Aye Watan Aye Watan (Shaheed)

‘Ae Watan Ae Watan Humko Teri Kasam’ is one of the most well-known patriotic songs. This devotional song was written and performed by Prem Dhawan for the 1965 film Shaheed. Mohd. Rafi has performed an amazing rendition of the song. A very patriotic song, reminding us of the sacrifices made by millions of people and transports us to the time before independence.

4. Kandho Se Milte Hain Kandhe

The evocative song ‘Kandhon Se Milte Hain Kandhe’ captures the unity of troops positioned at the border protecting their nation. The song, which is featured in the Kargil War-based film Lakshya, 1999, becomes an anthem of unity that embodies the spirit of the Indian army. The troops' unwavering spirit and shared moments of joy and sadness are emphasized.

5. Maa Tujhe Salaam

A. R. Rahman's soul-stirring song gained enormous popularity due to its patriotic theme.  Since its premiere on the Golden Jubilee anniversary of India's independence, it has played a significant role in fostering a sense of patriotism and solidarity among the country's citizens. The song 'Maa Tujhe Salaam' has had a very uplifting and unifying effect on the nation's nationalistic and patriotic spirit ever since it was released.

6. Ae Watan (Raazi)

The song ‘Ae Watan’, among many others, sparks a sense of patriotism in us. Particularly moved by the words `’Tujhpe koi gham ki aanch aane nahi du, Kurbaan meri jaan tujhpe, shaad rahe tu’ sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Arijit Singh. The song is perfect to listen to again because of its mellow tone and calming imagery.

7. Des Rangila

'Des Rangila' appreciates the multitude of Indian cultures and their vibrant colours. Written by Prasoon Joshi, the lyrics inspire a sense of pride and solidarity in the country. Due to its positive and upbeat vibe, the song gained a lot of popularity. For Republic Day, it has grown in popularity as a patriotic song.

8. Teri Mitti

'Teri Mitti', sung by B Praak and featured in the film Kesari, starring Parineeti Chopra and Akshay Kumar, is undoubtedly one of those patriotic Hindi songs that will make you cry. Kesari is an excellent watch for many reasons. It recounts the events of the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi. It highlights the multiple challenges faced by Havildar Ishar Singh, a soldier in the British Indian army who commanded 21 Sikh men in a battle against 10,000 Pashtun invaders. The war is recognised as one of history's most significant last-stand conflicts. You will get chills from its compelling story and its mournful yet proud undertone, which will allow you to mentally relive every scene of the battle.

9. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani

This one will never go out of style! You get a glimpse of your roots by this song. No matter who you are or where you end up, it serves as a reminder that you are Indian first and foremost. We shall always be proud of our country, and nobody can take that away from us! It is a part of the Bollywood satirical film of the same name and is one of the easy-to-hum Hindi patriotic songs. Every time you hear ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’, it is bound to get stuck in your head!
