Actress Yami Gautam Shares Her Go-to Makeup Looks, Skin Concerns & More

The actress asserts that the two things that always must be comfortable are your makeup and shoes

The pretty actress from Chandigarh shot to fame with her Bollywood debut Vicky Donor in 2012 and later showed off her acting prowess with films including Badlapur, Uri: The Surgical Strike, A Thursday and more. She’s also done films in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Punjabi. The talented actress is currently in Chicago at the 13th Chicago South Asian Film Festival (CSAFF) for the premiere of her film Lost, an emotional thriller where she essays the role of a crime reporter. Adding yet another feather to her cap, she’s also recently been signed on as brand ambassador by beauty brand Faces Canada, making this her first endorsement in the make-up world.

Be comfy, says Yami

Faces Canada’snew campaign focuses on ‘comfortable beauty’. Talking about the association with Faces Canada, Yami Gautam says, “The brand stands against uncomfortable beauty with their wide range of multi-benefit products with Hydra Matte Foundation and Fresh Eyes Kajal. Being a part of the entertainment world, makeup has been an integral part of my life. There were times when I have struggled due to excess use of make-up with severe repercussions. I was excited to find a partner who echoed my thoughts and offered beauty, comfort and glam.”

When it comes to comfortable makeup, Yami shares, “That’s been one of my mom’s golden rules that she swears by and I follow too – never ever compromise on your makeup, and your shoes too, so they both have to be really comfortable.”

Talking about her skin type, she reveals, “I have sensitive skin, so I have to be really careful about what goes on to my skin.” Last year, the actress was also in the news for revealing the fact that she, like many others, deals with keratosis pilaris, a skin condition that causes painless bumps on your skin around your hair follicles. She even posted untouched pictures from a shoot on her Instagram page with the caption reading, “I thought, ‘Hey Yami, why don’t you embrace this fact and accept it enough to be okay with it. Just let it be’.”

Keeping it simple

When quizzed about her favourite makeup products, she says, “I love kajal, I’m a huge fanOften my go-to makeup look is just some kajal, mascara and a lip tint, that’s it, and I’m ready to go. I don’t think this look can ever fail you.” Yami is known for her clean beauty look and she says she likes to keep it super simple and sometimes opts only for some concealer, a swipe of mascara and some lip gloss or lip colour.

Yami says, “I know this is trendy now, but we’ve all seen our mothers dab their fingers onto their lips and then onto the cheeks for a quick, effortless blushed look,” she says laughing, as she mimics the action of dabbing her lipstick on to her cheeks.

Ask her about her choice of lip colour from a palette of reds, nudes or pinks, and she confesses, “Red.I’m definitely a red lipstick girl.” She also shares that she’s never been a fan of liquid lipsticks because of how drying she feels they are on the lips, but she’s been truly enjoying the Comfy Matte Liquid Lipstick from Faces Canada which are comfortable to wear.

Also not one to blindly follow trends, she says, “I’ve always been a fan of matte finish, and I know this whole glowy, dewy makeup is so popular these days, but matte really works for my skin. And considering the weather that we shoot in and the humidity, and the fact that we’ve got to be on the run all the time, I think matte works a lot better.” Yami reveals that she’s not a fan of full coverage makeup either. “I think when it comes to makeup, one should really follow their instinct when it comes to their skin and wear whatever makes them happy and comfortable.” Words to live by, we say.
