Laapataa Ladies released in March 2024 after making its festival debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. While it had an average run at the box office, Laapataa Ladies really shined bright after its digital release on Netflix. It quickly became a massive hit on the platform and was loved by audiences from all across the world. The film happens to be Kiran Rao’s second venture after Dhobi Ghat and had a cast of mostly new comers. The story follows Deepak, played by Sparsh Shrivastav, who is coming back home to his village with his newly married wife Phool Kumari played by Nitanshi Goel. In the very crowded train, full of identically veiled new brides, Deepak mistakenly gets off at his station with another bride than his own. The confusion that follows and how Deepak and Phool find each other makes Laapataa Ladies the fun watch that it is.
