Actor-filmmaker, Farhan Akhtar, after sending actors, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna and Aamir Khan on a road trip to Goa 20 years ago, in Dil Chahta Hai, is now planning to send Bollywood’s leading ladies on an all-girls road trip, in Jee Le Zaraa. Akhtar has released the teaser of his latest film starring Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The three divas of Bollywood are all set to embark upon a fun road trip that will make you call up your girl gang right now.
Surprised, shocked, excited, is what netizens have been feeling since the teaser launch. Fans can't help but compare Jee Le Zaraa with the other hit road trip to Spain that Akhtar took with his friends, Hrithik Roshan and Abhay Deol 10 years ago in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The Jee Le Zaraa teaser was released in a calculated move on the 20th anniversary of Dil Chahta Hai. Akhtar said so in his Instagram post, "Thrilled to announce my next film as director and what better day than 20 years of Dil Chahta Hai to do it. #JeeLeZaraa with @priyankachopra @katrinakaif @aliaabhatt will commence filming in 2022 and I cannot wait to get this show on the road. Big shoutout to @whenchaimettoast for Firefly."
So, will the Jee Le Zaraa road trip be an Indian vacation, or will the game go international? That's a question for which you will have to reportedly wait till 2023. The film has been co-written by director- writer, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, and is being made under Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment; and Zoya and Reema Kagti's Tiger Baby Films.
Indian cinema rarely sees films that are led by female protagonists, and there is always a single-story arc that takes precedence. In such a case, these powerhouse actors sharing the screen and doing an ensemble style film is going to be worth the watch.
Unable to keep the excitement, Chopra Jonas took to her Instagram handle and posted, "Let’s rewind, to me musing about wanting to do another Hindi movie ASAP, on an unusually rainy night in Mumbai in Nov 2019. But it had to be the right one - different, cool, never been done before… I thought. The idea grew into a movie helmed by an all-female cast. There are not enough Hindi movies that are female multi-starrers. This led to an impulsive phone call… to my 2 real friends about this idea that involved 3 on-screen girlfriends. A celebration of friendship we called it!! Katrina, Alia, and I enthusiastically met in February 2020 (as seen in this picture), just before the world shut down, to discuss who we could trust to bring this vision to life for us and our choice was unanimous… Farhan and Ritesh, Zoya and Reema. We had all worked with @excelmovies and @tigerbabyfilms individually so this seemed perfect. It just so happened that Farhan was working on a female road trip movie at the same time! Talk about all the stars aligning!! And here we are today… #JeeLeZaraa… it only took 3 years to align all our schedules but we stuck together and got it done! This one is to sisterhood… to friendship and to breaking the mould!! Can’t wait to get on the road with Aloo and Katty. My heart’s smiling. See you at the movies."
