Ingredients For Lahori Dahi Bhalle Recipe

  • For Bhallas

    • 1 cup soaked (for 4 hrs) and ground split black gram

    • 1 tsp chopped ginger

    • salt to taste

    • 1 tsp cumin seeds

    • water as required

    • 2 tsp red chilli flakes

    • 1 tsp black salt

    • oil for frying

  • For Yogurt

    • 4 cups yogurt

    • 2 tbsp sugar

    • salt to taste

  • For Assembling

    • 1/2 cup boondi

    • 10-12 bhallas

    • 1 boiled and cubed potato

    • 2 tbsp chopped onions

    • 2 tbsp chopped tomatoes

    • 2 tbsp boiled chickpeas

    • 1 tsp chaat masala

    • 1 tsp black salt

    • 1 tbsp red chilli flakes

    • 1/2 cup sliced cabbage

    • 2 cups yogurt

    • 3 tbsp tamarind chutney

    • 3 tbsp mint chutney

    • 1 tsp roasted cumin

    • 1/4 cup sliced white radish

How to make Lahori Dahi Bhalle Recipe?

  1. In a bowl, take the ground split black gram dal and add salt, chopped ginger and cumin seeds to it and mix well.
  2. In another bowl, take water and add red chilli flakes and black salt to it and keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadhai and add small spoonful of batter to oil to make bhallas.
  4. Take out the deep-fried bhallas from kadhai and soak them in the water (prepare earlier) for 10 minutes.
  5. Whisk together yogurt, sugar and salt in a bowl.
  6. For assembling, take a serving plate and put some boondi on it.
  7. Now squeeze out the water from the bhallas and place them on top of boondi in the serving plate.
  8. Top it with boiled and cubed potatoes, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, and boiled chickpeas.
  9. Sprinkle some chaat masala, black salt and red chilli flakes on it and top it up with sliced cabbage, yogurt, tamarind chutney, mint chutney, roasted cumin, sliced white radish, boondi and small pieces of bhallas and serve.

Lahori dahi Bhalle are the same as dahi vada which is a very popular street food in India. Vada’s are made from batter of soaked urad dal and then the fried balls are dropped in water consisting of salt and chilli flakes. These soaked balls are topped with creamy yogurt and garnished with veggies and dry masala powders to make it yummy and more wholesome.
