How do you imagine a beautiful summer wedding to be? Similar to what modern fairytales are made of—where conversations and laughter surround the corridor, while we frolic around wearing dainty floral prints and fuss-free silhouettes in pastel colours.

So, when we got a chance to quiz actor Shraddha Kapoor on her go-to fashion staple for a spring-summer wedding, she was quick to point out the versatility and ease of a pre-stitched saree—a staple favourite of any woman that is her favourite too. If you closely look at her feed, her saree choices are definitely memorable, especially the ones that eliminate the need to tuck, pleat, and drape. “They’re super easy to style and carry, and it literally takes a minute to put together the entire look,” she tells about her love for pre-stitched sarees.

The actor has a refreshing approach to style. You can see her opting for several trendy, comfortable and unique ethnic wear styles. And in an exclusive interview with Zee Zest, she lets us get closer to her statement style as she brings forth a collection—an amalgamation of her handpicked staples—in a collaboration with the high-street Indian wear brand, Indya, which is known for its fusion wear aesthetics for their latest spring-summer edit. “Indya has re-invented Indian fashion by beautifully capturing the essence of what the modern Indian woman is looking for today,” she adds.

Inspired by joys and the stories of the Indian summer, the Saaho actor revelled in the free-spiritedness of the season for this collection. “A spring-summer wedding or occasion definitely calls for lightweight, breathable silhouettes and a soothing colour palette,” she shares. Her edit for the brand sets the mood with light and versatile silhouettes crafted in a colour palette of soft pastels and vivid hues. You can find functional skirt sets, breezy sharara sets, embellished tunics with attached dupattas, contemporary jumpsuits and, of course, ready-to-wear pre-draped sarees as some of the key trends in the collection.

“Pick silhouettes that are easy to wear through endless celebrations and that require minimal styling to keep you fuss-free in this heat,” she says, elucidating the mantra that she abides by. Case in point: the effortless,hand-embroidered kurta sets, bustier and skirt sets, and lightweight sarees—that she is often seen wearing on Instagram and that easily transition from a ‘day to night’ look.

In a tête-à-tête, Shraddha reveals her signature style mantra, the hero pieces from the collection, and summer wedding trousseau must-haves.

Edited Excerpts

For me, a pre-stitched saree in soft georgette or organza is a must-have. It saves me the time and the stress of getting it right. With its structured design, it also gives me a sense of freedom and ease of movement. A maxi tunic in a bright summer colour is also a key piece to have in your festive closet. For a fun ceremony such as mehendi, coordinated crop tops and sharara sets work well. They’re playful and keep you light on your feet.

It was fun and tough at the same time because I just couldn’t get myself to narrow it down to a capsule of my favourites. Every piece in the edit sets the mood for the season with its fresh palette, functional design, and versatile styling. It's a line that makes you want to indulge.

Keeping in mind the season—comfort, wearability, and effortless styling form the core of this collection. You’ll see distinctly stylish pieces in fresh summer hues and bold prints, making each piece a ‘one-and-done’ style that requires minimal effort yet lends maximum impact. Like, you cannot miss the pre-draped saris from this line. The designers have created modern renditions of the classic nine-yards in the form of saree skirts and tunics with ruffles and tiers that make them a must-have.

In terms of silhouettes, you can go for functional styles like pre-draped sarees. They are super low-maintenance and can be dressed up and down as per the occasion. As for the details, go for bold prints as they easily transition from day to night and make an eye-catching statement.

I’m always on the lookout for stylish clothes that I can simply slip into and get going. So, my personal style preferences completely resonate with the experimental and fuss-free essence of the brand that has beautifully captured what the modern Indian woman is looking for today.

I have way too many favourites, but if I have to pick one, it would be the mint ruffled saree that I’ve worn for the campaign shoot. It’s pre-stitched in a fresh summer shade with a  bold floral print and it just needs you to slip in, zip up, and get going—perfect for a day wedding. Another one of my favourites is the pink lehenga paired with an off-shoulder crop top. It’s subtle, yet makes a statement. Definitely, I'd wear it for a cocktail or an evening wedding.
