Bollywood has given us several romantic movies that may be cute, funny, cheesy, and definitely leave us feeling good. Add a dash of comedy, and you've got yourself a fantastic mix of light-hearted yet heartwarming movies to watch! So, if you are a loyal Bollywood fan who loves happy endings, you won't be able to resist this list of the best rom-com movies that we have compiled for you. So get the popcorn ready and press play!

1. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021)

This isn't your average romantic comedy. Manu (Ayushmann Khurrana) is smitten by Zumba instructor Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor), but things take a turn when she reveals that she is transgender. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, directed by Abhishek Kapoor, explores the issue of gender identity in a sensitive yet entertaining way.

In the post-Covid era, when we're all wrestling with the new normal, it's important to deep dive and ask what 'normal' actually means. Isn't it high time for us to shake things up a little, step outside our comfort zone, and break free from societal stereotypes? Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui keeps you entertained while questioning all these concerns.

2. Hum Do Humare Do (2021)

Dhruv Shikhar (Rajkummar Rao), an orphan who has surmounted all obstacles to become a wealthy entrepreneur, needs a family because Anya Mehra (Kriti Sanon), the lady he loves, wants to get married to someone with "a nice family and a cute doggy." Purshottam Mishra (Paresh Rawal) and Dipti Kashyap (Ratna Pathak Shah), who have a past of their own, are the two characters in his hunt. The story's central question is whether Dhruv and Anya's love can last despite their false foundations.

The movie has some pleasant and humorous moments throughout its run time. It also offers a pointed observation on families who appear joyful and unified on the surface but are arguing and battling behind closed doors. The highlight of the film is the chemistry between Dhruv, Anya, Purshottam, and Dipti. Their performances keep you captivated, earning this rom-com a place on this list.

3. Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021)

She sits in the front row for all of Rajnikant's movies. He avoids watching movies since they make him sleepy. She is a voracious reader. He's only ever enjoyed book cricket. She is cheerful and self-assured. He's agonisingly self-introverted and hell-bent on a career in coding, which he considers to be on par with art. Talk about a famous romantic movie with the story of polar opposites and you'll hear the names of Meenakshi (Sanya Malhotra) and Sundareshwar (Abhimanyu Dassani).

The mismatched twosome is brought together by pure serendipity. But what happens when a peculiar career opportunity forces two newlyweds to live apart? They do their utmost to make the messed-up situation work, and that's precisely what happens in this hilarious rom-com. In its own patient and modest style, Meenakshi Sundareshwar captures the realities of young people who struggle to attain work-life balance in an era where relationships are frequently sacrificed for the sake of career aspirations.

4. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020)

Aman Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar) and Kartik Singh (Ayushmann Khurranna), two salesmen, fall in love in the capital city of Delhi, where they live in obscurity and their romance flourishes without judgement. However, issues arise when the two decide to return to Allahabad and persuade Aman's conservative parents to approve their relationship.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a modern Bollywood rom-com set against the backdrop of a relationship between two men. The central theme of the film focuses on the taboo surrounding same-sex partnerships, especially in small-town India. While it does make you laugh, this film also conveys an important message concerning homosexuality.

5. Lukka Chuppi (2019)

Lukka Chuppi follows the journey of Guddu (Kartik Aryan), a reporter who falls in love with Rashmi (Kriti Sanon), as they decide to establish a live-in relationship without revealing it to their families. To live under the same roof, they pretend to be married and dwell among many suspicious neighbours. The story takes a chaotic turn when their family finds out and believes they eloped and got married.

From the beginning itself, Luka Chuppi is a situational comedy. Live-in relationships are the circumstance at hand. What begins as a journalistic piece for local reporter Guddu quickly devolves into his own love tale, complete with humorous difficulties. Other societal concerns like sexism, gender inequity, caste bias, and moral policing are also addressed in a lighthearted and non-threatening manner. Directed by Laxman Utekar, this film is counted among the best romantic comedies of recent times.
