Meet The Indian Celebs Who Dazzled At The Cannes Red Carpet 2022 On Day 1

The Cannes Film Festival 2022 has officially kickstarted with elaborate red-carpet glamour. The festival has always been known for its extravagant fashion picks. And similarly, day 1 of this star-studded, glitzy event witnessed some stunning celebrity style moments from across the globe.

With India as the country of honour this year, a host of talented Indians walked the red carpet. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur led the delegation from India to Cannes with music maestro A R Rahman, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, folk singer Mame Khan, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi were among the film personalities who walked the red carpet in grand style.

Over the next few days as the French resort town plays host to the eminent film festival, we give you the full lowdown of the Indian stars who unfolded their spellbinding style moments on the Cannes red carpet. From jury member Deepika Padukone dazzling in two exquisite numbers by Sabyasachi to actor R Madhavan looking dapper in a cool suit, check the Indian celebs who strutted down the iconic Cannes red carpet on the first day.

The first day of the Cannes red carpet began with Deepika Padukone, who is a part of the eight-member jury, draped in six yards of sheer elegance. Styled by Shaleena Nathani, she went for a dazzling Sabyasachi saree. Clad in a black and golden sequinned saree styled with a strapless blouse, she kicked off Cannes 2022 in grand style. The saree was inspired by the majestic Bengal tiger, as part of the atelier’s iconic Aakash Tara collection that celebrates heritage Indian crafts and techniques through a modern lens. A hand-blocked and embroidered saree, it was a special nod to Padukone’s Indian heritage.

For accessories, the look was paired with statement pieces featuring bedazzling rings and long earrings from Sabyasachi Jewellery’s Bengal Royale Collection. Padukone also wore a bejewelled, modern headband, similar to the traditional Indian matha patti headpiece. Her makeup was also a standout, exuding retro charm and totally bold with  black eyeshadow, dramatic lashes and nude lipstick.

In a Sabyasachi outfit with green billowy pants and a printed shirt, the actor brought contemporary elegance to the jury photocall earlier in the day. Padukone also went for the classic nude makeup for this look with long-winged liner, soft smoky eyes, bronzed cheeks and matte brown lipstick.

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia made her glistening debut at the Cannes 2022 and she looked nothing less than ethereal. Also styled by Shaleena Nathani, she wore a stellar white and black ball gown designed by Gauri & Nainika. The ensemble featured a dramatic flair towards the hemline, which enhanced the fit. The gown also came with a long, dramatic trail that elevated the look even more.  She rounded her look with golden lids, dramatic arrow liner, open tresses and diamond earrings.

In another striking look, Tamannaah made power moves with her look dressed in a green pistachio coloured pantsuit from Bershka paired with a lavender corset. She brought summer elegance in a beautiful breezy style, accentuating the look with colourful lids, nude lip colour and striking gold-toned earrings.

Another Indian actor who made her Cannes debut this year was Urvashi Rautela who looked like a vision in white. She was stunning on the red carpet in a white, voluminous, off-shoulder tulle gown by designer Tony Ward. accentuated her white gown with bold red lipstick, sharp-contoured face and highlighted cheeks. Adding to her breath-taking look was her round, statement earrings, an enthralling bracelet and a diamond ring.

Content creator Masoom Minawala is back for the Cannes event for the third time in a row. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, she was dressed head-to-toe in a hot pink Valentino ensemble. Masoom picked a look from Valentino’s autumn/winter 2022 collection that was unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in March. Designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the vibrant all-pink ensemble featured a mini dress paired with pink tights and chunky platform high heels. Her quilted pink bag made a statement on its own. She accessorised her look with some dazzling rings by Swarovski and Joolry. Masoom chose a high ponytail to accompany her high-fashion moment. Masoom looked like a vision in pink representing India on behalf of the Content Hub of the World in Cannes 2022.

In addition to a slew of Indians who walked the red carpet at Cannes, content creator Rahi Chadda also walked the red carpet. Rahi went for a Fall/Winter 2022-23 Maison Valentino look designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli. The ensemble featured a voluminous suit with 3D-floral applique all over. The look was spiced up with a sheer shirt underneath that added a feminine edge to the otherwise suave look.

In another striking look, Rahi went for a pristine ivory look from Maison Valentino. An elegant sheer shirt with floral appliques was paired with a pair of high-waisted trousers and platform boots that evoked the elegance of the look.

Actor R. Madhavan’s directorial debut film, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. On the red carpet, the bonafide actor stepped out looking dapper in a three-piece suit from Manish Malhotra adorned with a sequinned lapel collar and textured oxford shoes from Dolce & Gabbana. His cool black aviators completed the look just right.
