For those, who have not yet made the trip to the Navi Mumbai store, Ikea’s new small-format city store that opens to the public in the Utopia City, behind the famous Kamala Mills Compound, in Worli is just what you need to spruce up your home before the year-end celebrations begin.</p><p>This is IKEA’s third store in India and the first small-format city store in Mumbai. After launching two large-format stores in Hyderabad (Telangana) and Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra), the Swedish home décor giant Ikea (part of the Ingka Group) has opened its first small-format city store in India, spread across a sprawling area of 80 thousand square feet, spanning three floors, in the heart of Mumbai – Worli.</p><p>Of the three floors (ground plus two), the first floor boasts of bedroom inspiration and children’s range; the second floor has items for living room, kitchen, and dining solutions, while the ground floor has a restaurant that serves Swe-desi food (Swedish and Indian favourites), and a mix of bedroom, living and laundry area setups for inspiration.</p><p>These include several products and textiles sourced from Ikea’s list of 50+ local suppliers. What’s noteworthy is that bright colours and bold prints run through most sections keeping Indian design aesthetics in mind, and the room layouts are space-saving and functional, which seem perfect for crammed Mumbai homes. From crockery for daily use as well as special occasions, sofa sets, a variety of chairs, cupboards, storage boxes, to home décor items and home cleaning essentials, the Ikea Worli City Store has a range of 8,000-9,000 products. </p><p>Internationally, Ikea is known for its affordable products, and the Worli city store is no exception. We got a chance to check out the store before its launch on December 9, 2021, and as we navigated through this new space, it was brimming with some amazing home décor and storage solutions. One (long) stroll at the store made us realise that it can get overwhelming for an everyday shopper to cover it all. With that in mind, we scoured through the inventory there to curate a list of items that deserve a spot on your cart.</p><h2>1. Move over austere minimalism, cottage core and Marie Kondo….welcome maximalism—say hello to cluttercore!  </p><p>A decor trend that became viral in mid-2020, a search on the hashtag #cluttercore throws up more than 17,000 posts on Instagram and has garnered close to 9 million views on Tik Tok.A decor aesthetic that is essentially all about creating a distinctively personal space and cosy vibe through vibrant colours, mismatched but aesthetically put together elements like artefacts, furniture and furnishings—cluttercore has been aptly described by Twitter as "an organized mess" that feels "like a big surrounding hug."</p><h2>Memories, stories and more</h2><figure class="image"><img src="https://assets.zeezest.com/images/PROD_Pic%20credit_VO%20Living_1638447766015.jpg"><figcaption>© VO Living</figcaption></figure><p>Cluttercore is basically about surrounding yourself with the things you love, like souvenirs that preserve memories and pieces that speak of several stories. Display pieces that have their own unique story to tell and give out a vibration on their own. You need to use various elements, be it artefacts, sculptures or furnishings, to build layers in an area and add depth to its narrative,” says Priyanka Singh, director of VO Living.  </p><p>The unabashed use of bright colours, quirky patterns, print-on-print, unconventional furniture, wall plates, art, treasures and trinkets are great ideas to create warm, comforting vibes.  If you are short on square footage, go in for tall racks, floating shelves, and maximise on vertical spaces so that your space does not look chaotic.  Mix and match elements to break the monotony and to create a visual break. “Lighting plays a crucial role. You don’t want to evenly light everything. You want your gaze to rest on some elements, while you glance over the others,” adds Lunia.<br>Grouping artefacts according to size, decorating in triangles, adding in house plants, using rugs to help delineate one space from the other are some ways to add a sense of coherence and prevent the space from becoming overwhelming. “Colour-coding certain pieces could be a good start. Attention to detail is of the utmost importance while choosing to display elements that are close to your heart.  “Each piece should tell a story in its individual right, whether about its craftsmanship or the nostalgia that it may bring or about its form that evokes something inside us or the comfort of its functionality. Also, grubby pillows and duvets can exacerbate acne, spots, and other types of skin inflammation.</p><p>Tip: Keep your mattress out in the sun for a few hours once a month. Also, vacuum it periodically and foam clean if possible. Another homemade solution is to sprinkle some baking soda over the mattress for an hour (this will pull out all the odours) and then vacuum the surface.
